THE IMPORTANCE OF ARABIC

Arabic, islamic, & social studies

Arabic is an extremely important part of the curriculum at Star. Children are encouraged to extend their Arabic skills in real life contexts. Extracurricular activities further enhance their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.
As per the rules and regulations in the UAE, it is mandatory for:
  • All Muslim students to study Islamic Education from Year 2 to Year 12 inclusive.
  • All Arab students (registered at the school with an Arab passport) to study Arabic as a first language from Year 1 to Year 12 inclusive.
  • All students registered at the school with a non-Arab passport to study Arabic as an additional language from Year 1 to Year 9 inclusive.

In EYFS, all children study Arabic together.

From Key Stage 1, Arabic language classes at Star are divided into two sections:

Arabic A – for native Arabic speakers

The curriculum for Arabic A follows the UAE Ministry of Education syllabus and is enhanced by a range of resources and activities that promote active and purposeful learning.

Arabic B – for non-native Arabic speakers

The Arabic B students are divided into differentiated levels within each year group to ensure that appropriate support is provided for each student.

Islamic Education

Islamic Education is a subject taught for Muslim students. It is taught in Arabic for native speakers, and in English for those students who speak Arabic as an additional language. The Islamic department follows the Ministry of Education syllabus.

The learning of Islamic concepts is combined with practical examples related to real life experiences. Our enthusiastic and dedicated teachers explain prescribed Islamic topics that include Hadiths, Aqidah (Faith), and Akhlaq (Manners), Islamic History, and Islamic Social Studies together with the appropriate Surahs from the Noble Qu’ran.

Social Studies

Our Social Studies lessons provide children with in-depth knowledge, skills and understanding of the culture, heritage and traditions of the UAE and the Middle East.

Social Studies lessons follow the UAE Ministry of Education syllabus and are taught from Years 2 to 11. Through engaging projects and discussions, the students develop their critical thinking, problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.

As well as allocated Social Studies lessons, an awareness of UAE history, geography and traditions is embedded throughout the curriculum.
